Significance
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas, also known as the temple of the 'doctor of gods'. The Shravan Mela here is one of the largest Hindu gatherings — millions of Kanwariyas carry Ganga water from Sultanganj (108 km away) on foot to pour on the lingam.
Legend & Story
Ravana, the demon king, worshipped Shiva here with immense devotion, even offering his ten heads one by one. Pleased, Shiva appeared as Vaidyanath (lord of physicians) and healed Ravana. The temple complex has 22 smaller temples around the main shrine.
