Omkareshwar Temple

Significance
The 4th Jyotirlinga, located on an island shaped like the Hindu Om symbol in the Narmada river. The island is called Mandhata or Shivapuri. Two temples — Omkareshwar and Amareshwar — are both considered Jyotirlinga sites.
Legend & Story
According to legend, the Vindhya mountain worshipped Shiva here with great devotion. Pleased, Shiva manifested as the Jyotirlinga. Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have met his guru Govinda Bhagavatpada here. The island's natural Om shape makes it a unique sacred geography.
