Significance

Claimed to be one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (with Nageshwar in Gujarat). The temple has ancient Hemadpanthi architecture and is one of the oldest Shiva temples in Maharashtra. The lingam here is considered Swayambhu (self-manifested).

Legend & Story

According to local tradition, this is the original Nagnath Jyotirlinga. The temple was built in the Hemadpanthi style during the Yadava dynasty period (13th century). The sanctum houses a lingam that devotees believe has been here since time immemorial.
