Significance
The 12th and last Jyotirlinga, located near the famous Ellora Caves (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The smallest of all Jyotirlinga temples but highly revered. The temple was rebuilt by Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century in red stone.
Legend & Story
According to the Shiva Purana, a woman named Kusuma performed Shiva puja by immersing 101 lingams in a nearby lake daily. Her jealous co-wife killed Kusuma's son. Kusuma continued her devotion. Shiva appeared, revived her son, and stayed here as Grishneshwar (lord of compassion).
