Significance
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas, located at the source of the Godavari river near Nasik. The lingam has three faces representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva (Trimurti). The Kumbh Mela is held here every 12 years.
Legend & Story
The Godavari river originates from Brahmagiri hill near this temple. According to legend, Gautama Rishi performed severe penance here, and Shiva appeared as Trimbakeshwar. The temple was rebuilt in the 18th century by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao using black stone.
