Eklavya's Dedication

MahabharataSelf-Taught Mastery

Eklavya, a tribal boy, dreamed of learning archery from Guru Dronacharya. But Drona refused to teach him, as he only trained princes. Heartbroken but undeterred, Eklavya went into the forest and made a clay statue of Drona. Every day, he practiced before the statue as if his guru were truly watching. Through years of dedicated practice, Eklavya became an extraordinary archer. One day, when a dog disturbed his practice, he shot seven arrows that pinned the dog's mouth shut without hurting it. When the princes discovered this feat, they were stunned. Drona himself came to see. Amazed, he asked for Eklavya's right thumb as guru dakshina (teacher's fee). Without hesitation, Eklavya cut off his thumb and offered it. His devotion and skill remain legendary to this day.
