Dhruva — The Child Who Became a Star
Young Prince Dhruva went to sit on his father King Uttanapada's lap, but his stepmother Suruchi pushed him away. "Only my son can sit on the king's lap. If you want a throne, go pray to Lord Vishnu," she said cruelly. The king stayed silent. The five-year-old Dhruva, instead of crying, walked straight into the forest to find Vishnu. Sage Narada tried to send him home, but Dhruva's resolve was extraordinary. He meditated standing on one foot, eating nothing, not even breathing, focusing entirely on Vishnu. His penance shook the three worlds. Pleased by such determination from a small child, Lord Vishnu appeared and offered Dhruva any wish. Dhruva asked for an eternal, unshakable position. Vishnu placed him in the sky as the Pole Star — Dhruva Tara — a fixed point that never moves, guiding travelers forever.
