The Blue Jackal

PanchatantraTruthfulness

A hungry jackal wandered into a village at night and accidentally fell into a washerman's vat of blue dye. When he crawled out, his fur was bright blue. Back in the forest, every animal stared in awe, never having seen such a creature. The clever jackal seized his chance. "I am Kakudruma, sent by the gods to rule this forest!" he announced. The lion, tiger, and elephant all bowed and served him. The blue jackal lived like a king, eating the finest food without lifting a paw. One evening, a pack of jackals nearby began howling at the moon. Unable to resist his nature, the blue jackal howled back. Instantly, all the animals recognized him. Exposed as a fraud, he fled the forest in shame.
