Lord Krishna
कृष्ण — The Supreme Personality, 8th Avatar of Vishnu
Iconography & Symbolism
Dark blue/black skin (Krishna means 'dark'). Playing the flute (murli). Peacock feather in hair. Yellow silk garment (pitambar). Standing in the tribhanga pose (three-bent posture). As a child: stealing butter. As Arjuna's charioteer: commanding the battlefield.
Story & Mythology
Born in a prison cell to Devaki and Vasudeva, Krishna was secretly taken to Gokul to escape his uncle Kamsa. As a child, he stole butter, defeated demons, and danced with the gopis in the Rasa Leela. He lifted Govardhan mountain to protect villagers from Indra's wrath. In the Mahabharata, he served as Arjuna's charioteer and delivered the Bhagavad Gita — a 700-verse discourse on dharma, karma, and the nature of reality. He killed Kamsa, established Dwarka, and guided the Pandavas to victory.
